This policy explains what information Wordswell collects and how it’s used.
Overview
Wordswell (“we,” “us”) publishes a daily quote website at wordswell.co and companion mobile apps. We keep the data we collect to what’s needed to run the service: understanding how the site is used, and, in the apps, letting you sign in and receive daily notifications. We don’t sell your information.
Information We Collect
On the website.We use Ahrefs Analytics to understand traffic — things like which pages are visited, referring sites, and general browser and device type. This runs automatically for all visitors; see “Third-Party Services” below for how Ahrefs handles this data. Your theme preference (light or dark) is stored in your browser’s local storage and never leaves your device.
In the mobile apps. If you create an account or sign in (including via Apple or Google), we collect the information that sign-in method provides — typically a name and email address or an anonymized identifier. If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver the daily quote. We also collect basic device and diagnostic information (app version, OS version, crash logs) to keep the apps working.

Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of outside providers to run Wordswell, each of which processes some data on our behalf:
- Analytics providers — to understand website traffic
- Authentication providers — to support optional sign-in in the mobile apps
- Push notification services — to deliver app notifications
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — to run the website and API
These providers only receive what they need to perform their function and are bound by their own privacy terms.
Cookies & Local Storage
The website does not use cookies for tracking. It stores one preference — your light/dark theme choice — in your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device. Our analytics provider may use similar lightweight, non-invasive techniques to distinguish visits.
Data Retention
We keep account and device data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and delete it within a reasonable period after you delete your account or uninstall the app. Aggregate analytics data may be retained longer since it isn’t tied to an identifiable person.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@wordswell.co. You can also delete your account directly from within the mobile app, and disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Children’s Privacy
Wordswell is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the website and apps evolve — for example, if we add new features like in-app purchases. We’ll update the effective date above when we do, and material changes will be flagged in the app or on this page.
